Businessman. He gained notoriety in the 1800s for being the owner of Chiswick Press, which his uncle, Charles Whittington, had started west of London, England in 1811. In 1824, he became a partner in his uncle's printing business. His uncle was considered the founder of modern printing. Since his uncle had no heirs, he funded an excellent education for his nephew including sending him to Paris, France.
